Alex Fitzpatrick, the English golfer, has emulated his older brother Matt by securing his maiden title at the Hero Indian Open. He achieved this remarkable feat by overcoming a four-shot deficit to claim victory.
Just a week after his Ryder Cup star brother Matt won the Valspar Championship, 27-year-old Alex clinched his first DP World Tour title. He finished two strokes ahead of the overnight leader and defending champion, Eugenio Chacarra, at the DLF Golf & Country Club. This historic win makes the Fitzpatricks the first pair of brothers to win in consecutive weeks on the PGA and DP World Tours.
Despite a double bogey on the par-five 18th, Fitzpatrick delivered a final round of 69, contrasting sharply with the Spaniard’s 75. This secured his victory by two shots with a total of nine-under par in his 87th professional start, earning him €375,811.
An emotional Fitzpatrick struggled to find words, stating, “I’ll try and explain without crying.” He had been six shots behind Chacarra after just five holes but then surged ahead with an impressive run of eight birdies over a 12-hole stretch from the sixth. He added, “It’s been a lot of hard work for a long time… I’m over the moon. Probably going to cry, but yeah, ecstatic.”
